Tax Reports
Tax reports in MustardHub provide a consolidated view of redeemable point transfers that resulted in redeemable value being granted to individual Members over a defined period of time.
These reports are designed to support:
- Preparing periodic financial or payroll reviews
- Supporting compliance checks
- Internal review and reconciliation with accounting records
- Coordination with payroll, accounting, or tax advisors, including external support
- Audit preparation and record validation
Tax reports are retrospective. They reflect completed activity only.
They are not tax filings, determinations, or compliance submissions. MustardHub does not provide tax, legal, or accounting advice.
What information is included
At a high level, tax reports summarize company-granted value that ultimately lands in a Member’s redeemable wallet.
Each report includes:
- The report generation date
- The coverage period (start and end dates)
- Members included in the report
- The dollar value of points received, expressed in USD
- Separate totals by tax category (where applicable)
- A total value per Member for the selected period
Reports are generated as spreadsheets intended for review or handoff to downstream systems or advisors.
Understanding what crosses the reporting boundary is critical.
Tax reports provide redeemable points granted directly to Members, including:
- Recognitions
- Celebrations (automated or manual)
- Scheduled or system-generated posts
- Private or public awards
- Boosts
If redeemable value is deposited into a Member’s wallet, it is reflected in the tax report.
Tax reports do not include:
- Points held in Giving Wallets
- Peer-to-peer points until they are given to another Member as a direct recognition or boost
- Funding events, treasury movements, or internal balances
- Non-redeemable activity or engagement signals
Only value that resolves into a Member’s redeemable wallet appears in tax reports.
For transaction-level detail beyond report summaries, see D.5: Wallets, Transfers & History.
How tax reports relate to tax categories
Tax reports reflect the tax categories applied at the time value was granted, not at the time the report is generated.
This means:
- Category assignments are historical
- Changes to tax category configuration do not retroactively affect past reports
Tax reports rely on tax categories for classification but do not define or validate category logic. They reflect category assignments as recorded at the time of each transaction.
For category configuration details, see D.3: Tax Categories.

Common misconceptions about tax reports
-
“If it’s in a tax report, it’s compliant.”
Tax reports support compliance workflows but do not determine compliance outcomes.
-
“All points activity appears in tax reports.”
Only redeemable value granted to Members is included.
-
“Tax reports replace payroll or accounting records.”
They are designed to support those systems, not replace them.
